The office of tomorrow

An office can certainly be a vehicle of environmental consciousness. ABN AMRO takes sustainability seriously, ensuring circular use of materials and low energy demand, all the while remaining a hub for brainstorming and innovation.

Facts
This ABN AMRO office is well underway to be twice as sustainable as required by the international Paris climate agreement.

Energy consumption will be below 30 kWh per square meter, significantly lower than the 50-kWh target in the climate agreement. Additionally, the wooden main structures aid in CO2 storage.

Furthermore, the building's smart ceilings include LED lighting, heating and cooling controls, and sensors to track indoor conditions and occupancy. It comes as no surprise that this development is anticipating a BREEAM Excellent certification.

Circularity takes centre stage at ABN AMRO’s new home base.

A whopping 70,000 m2 of the material from the original building is expected to be reused. Designed by Broekbakema Architecten, this office aims to retain its vintage design features from the 80's to enhance its community character. This allows the design to still visibly show the bank’s long history while incorporating remaining materials for use elsewhere when possible.

The atrium is designed to be a point for connection.

Edge aims to extend the building and increase space efficiency by adding volume through floors and interconnected atria. These new atria will serve as a working and meeting space for nearly 11.000 employees.

Additional floor space to the building will introduce an open, horizontal layout to foster social interaction, creativity and inspiration. All atria are made of wood and glass, including the wooden slats and facades for the facades, in addition to the 30,000 m2 of new wooden floors. Detachable and unprocessed materials guarantee the possibility of reuse in the future.
